  • ENRICHMENT- WHAT IS IT?

To enrich is to improve, for our dogs this means that we are seeking to enhance their lives by improving their physical and psychological well-being.

     WHY

Enrichment allows dogs the ability to express normal behaviors through physical exercise, manipulative activities, and cognitive challenges thereby decreasing stress which in return makes for a happier dog.

Often the things our dogs do naturally are the same things that are considered to be problems by owners such as digging, chasing, chewing and barking.

Interestingly these ‘behavior problems’ result in many dogs being rehomed, surrendered to pounds and shelters or even just abandoned but there are so many things we can do prevent these things from becoming a problem.

Sure, in a perfect world every dog gets to go for at least one walk a day but one of the best things we can do is to create a home environment that the dog is happy to be in. For many dogs this is where they are going to spend the majority of their lives and often they spend lots of time home alone while we go about our other lives (work, sports, socializing and so on).

There is an almost limitless number of toys and products available, however there are many inexpensive ways we can provide enriching things for your dogs to do with just using things around the home.

All dogs are different and all homes are different but here are some of the main things dogs naturally like to do and ideas about how we can fulfill these in the home.  for some fun ideas to try click below
